Invincibles Team Swap Builds for Boots at Special Effect’s Football Fives Tournament

The Invincibles team laced up their boots and hit the pitch for charity last week, recording some impressive results during their run in Special Effect’s Football Fives tournament.

Football Fives is an annual tournament run by the charity Special Effect. Special Effect champion inclusion in gaming through technology, working on innovative solutions and bespoke setups for people with physical challenges. They work hard to transform their lives and make sure that everyone – no matter their circumstances – can take part in gaming and have access to the same experiences as everyone else. They use their expertise to create setups tailor-made for individual challenges and then develop free resources to use to promote accessibility for all.

The Football Fives tournament supports their work and is open to game developers up and down the country. Every year, members of our studio head to Liverpool to take part in the regional tournament, facing off against other local developers in five-a-side matches, all in aid of a good cause. Teams go through a group stage and a knockout stage, with the eventual victors heading off to Birmingham later in the year to take part in the national tournament.

Our very own Invincibles FC were dominant in the group stages of the tournament, scoring goals freely and coming out with a very respectable goal difference. Whilst the knockout rounds were slightly less successful, it was a day to be proud of nonetheless and we are thrilled to have taken part in supporting such a brilliant charity for another year. As a company in the gaming industry, we have a close interest in and deep respect for the work of Special Effect. Their work is genuinely life-changing for the people that they reach, and it’s a privilege to be able to help them in their journey. As our goal-scoring captain Conor said, “It was a great day for a great cause. It’s unfortunate that we lost out in the quarter finals, but it was still a fantastic day and we’d like to thank everyone at Special Effect for their work.”
